Geoffrey Conrad,
Professor of Anthropology and Director of the William Hammond Mathers Museum , is the Special Advisor for the Humanities . Professor Conrad furthers the development of research and scholarly activities in the humanities as well as manages the New Frontiers Arts & Humanities initiatives and the National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Stipend internal competition.

Sherry Knighton-Schwandt, Director of Communications and Special Projects for the Office of the Vice Provost for Research provides research development support to the Vice Provost and Associate Vice Provosts. She also leads OVPR's Communications Team whose goals are to broaden faculty awareness of OVPR's research development services, especially internal funding opportunities; to inspire interdisciplinary collaboration among faculty; and to generate recognition and understanding of IU's widespread research and creative activity. Sherry is also coordinator of ArtsWeek, an annual campus-community winter festival, encompassing 11 days that celebrate the richness of the arts in Bloomington.

Suzanne Lodato provides coordination and support for the development and submission of grants that include but are not limited to the federal stimulus funding, alternative energy opportunities, and arts and humanities initiatives. She works with OVPR's Associate Vice Provosts and the faculty from across the university to take advantage of appropriate funding opportunities, particularly those offered by the stimulus bill.

Scott Long, Associate Vice Provost for the Social Sciences, is a Chancellor's Professor of Sociology and Statistics. Previous administrative positions include Chair of Sociology and Chair of the Departmental Formation Committee for Statistics. His work in the sociology of science focuses on processes that affect achievement in science, and most recently, this work has focused on factors that affect the career outcomes of women in science. In his new role in OVPR, Scott will oversee the Bureau of Social Sciences Research.

Sarita Soni,
Vice Provost for Research and Professor of Optometry is responsible for developing and administering research funding for faculty and programs throughout Indiana University including the professional disciplines, the arts, humanities, and the social and life sciences. Vice Provost Soni serves as steward of university research resources including distribution of funds for equipment, facilities, faculty start-ups, internal research awards, and the promotion of high-quality research programs on all IU campuses. She maintains active memberships and leadership roles in national organizations related to university research, economic development, and federal relations. She also works in partnership with other university offices to enhance funding for IU research from federal, state, business, industry, and private sources. Vice Provost Soni works with several associate vice provosts to develop and administer the Special State Research Fund, Faculty Research Support Program, New Frontiers Program in the Arts and Humanities, Clinical Translational Science Initiative, IU/Purdue Collaboration in Life Sciences, and Informatics Research Pilot Grant Program, as well as other programs that support faculty research and creative activity.

Ruth Stone, Associate Vice Provost for the Arts, is Laura Boulton Professor of Ethnomusicology and African Studies at Indiana University in Bloomington . She has also chaired the Department of Folklore and Ethnomusicology and served as the Director of the Archives of Traditional Music. She has also served as co-project director for the EVIA Digital Archive, an electronic resource that is designed to be accessible over Internet2 and is funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, Indiana University , and the University of Michigan .

Jeffrey R. White, Jeffrey White is professor of environmental science in the School of Public and Environmental Affairs and the Department of Geological Sciences. He focuses on physical, natural and life sciences and is responsible for the Faculty Research Support Program (see research.iu.edu/recipients/internal_b.html). White's previous administrative positions include Chair of Environmental Science and Associate Dean in SPEA.
