The mission of the Multipurpose Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Diseases Center is to pursue major biomedical research
interests relevant to the rheumatic diseases. Current areas of emphasis
include articular cartilage biology, pathogenesis of articular cartilage
breakdown in osteoarthritis (OA), causes of pain and disability in
OA, the pathogenesis and treatment of various forms of amyloidosis,
the pathogenesis of dermatomyositis, and immunologic and biochemical
markers of cartilage breakdown and repair.
