The IUMSC is one of the leading service crystallography laboratories
in the world. It has acquired an international reputation for its work
in crystallographic techniques, including low temperature crystallography
and remote instrument access. Local equipment includes a SMART6000 CCD
instrument, an R-Axis imaging plate system, four conventional four-circle
diffractometers, and a powder diffractometer. In addition, the IUMSC
operates the SCrAPS
program which provides access to instruments at the national synchrotron
sources. An on-going project of the center is the establishment of a
molecular structure database (Reciprocal
Net) for the National Science Digital Library (NSDL). The IUMSC
serves as the central portal for the project that currently includes
fourteen crystallography facilities located at university and national
laboratories. Nearly three thousand structures are currently accessibly
from the web site. Collaboration with scientists outside the university
is encouraged.
