The Center for Applied Cybersecurity Research works to enhance the security and integrity of information systems, technologies, and content by facilitating research and education informed by, and integrated with, the practice of information assurance.
CACR draws on Indiana University's wide range of scholarly expertise in computer science, informatics, accounting and information systems, criminal justice, law, organizational behavior, public policy, and other disciplines; and the extensive practical experience in cybersecurity of its operational units, including the Information Technology Security and Policy Offices and other units within the Office of the Vice President for Information Technology and University Information Technology Services, the University Counsel's office, Risk Management, Internal Audit, regional campus computing centers, and the Indiana University Police Department.
“Cybersecurity,” as addressed by CACR, is the use of technologies, systems, policies, laws, personnel, and education to protect information networks and systems and information content from unauthorized access, use, destruction, alteration, or injury. It is concerned not only with how this is done, but also with its efficiency, cost, and impact on individuals, the public, the economy, and other values and objectives.
